Welcome Letter 2019
Dear Annunciation Catholic School Parents and Guardians,
Welcome Back!
I hope you are enjoying the last days of summer as we gear up in anticipation for a wonderful school year. I am excited and look forward to our scholars’ success and am delighted to be a part of this awesome learning community. This year, we have embraced the fact the we are a Community of F.A.I.T.H. (Fortitude, Achievement, Integrity, Teamwork and Holiness). Monsignor Mellone, the teachers and I look forward to working collaboratively and welcome and value your expertise and passion as your child(ren)’s first teacher.
Many of our faculty and staff have worked tirelessly this summer embarking on professional learning opportunities and meticulously planning for your child(ren)’s success. Our enthusiastic office staff has worked to bring in awesome new families and has been busy ensuring that we are ready to start on the 27th. The HSA has been planning all summer to support our school in new and innovative ways. The first of which is the Back to School BBQ to be held on August 18th, from 3-6:30PM.

As a new principal, I am so grateful for the staff that I have inherited that have a genuine love and devotion to our school community. To add to this team of dynamic educators, we have been blessed with teachers who possess enthusiasm and a solid skill set.

New Initiatives
We have unveiled a S.T. R.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Religion/Reading, Art and Mathematics) Initiative that will allow our students to take full advantage of our brand new MakerSpace Lab and the expertise of the teachers on our staff.
We also have launched a Learning Center that will accommodate the diverse needs of all of our students and support new initiatives like the High School Guidance Program.
Important Dates and News
The first day of school is August 27, 2019 for all students. School begins promptly at 8AM. Before care begins at 6:45AM.
You are welcomed to join us for our Town Hall Meeting (Morning Assembly) in the Gym on the first day of school. Aftercare will be available on the first day of school. We will have an early dismissal on Friday, August 30th at 12:00PM (Aftercare will be available until 6PM).
Do not worry about Supplies for this school year. Mrs. Kay has done the shopping for you. We are collecting a $40.00 Supply Fee that can be made to the office. Please note that, The Supply fee does not include the calculators for middle schoolers or the Chromebook that is required for 1st -8th grade students.
All uniforms are sold by Flynn and O’Hara Uniform Store. The uniforms can also be purchased online at flynnohara.com. With the exception of khaki items, and white oxford shirts, all items should be purchased at Flynn and O’Hara (that includes ties, vests, sweaters, and gym uniforms). Please note, the uniform guidelines now include khaki pants and shorts for girls. Please refer to Uniform Requirements for more information.
Back to School Night is September 4, 2019 at 6:00PM. It will be an informative night and I encourage every family to make a sincere effort to attend. It is a great opportunity to meet your child(ren)’s teachers and hear about the wonderful events and volunteer opportunities from the HSA Board.
On September 10th at 6:30PM we will hold our first High School Planning Meeting for 7th and 8th grade parents. This meeting will discuss shadow visits, give an overview of the HSPT and discuss how our faculty will support our scholars through the high school admissions process.
Smart Lunch has ended its contract with us and many of the ADW schools. Lunch will be provided by Gist Catering and will begin on September 9, 2019. We will have more information about the menu and cost the first week of school.
As ACS begins the sixty fifth year of bringing a Catholic education to children in Washington, DC, I am humbled and proud to serve this community as your principal. I look forward to the journey ahead with a community that learns and grows together.
